My name is Rachel Ripley, and this is my 9th year at Strasburg Middle School/High School. I student taught here as well, so technically it’s my 10th year in the Strasburg community. I am a 2007 graduate of Central Catholic High School. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Education and my Associate of Science in Psychology at Kent State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. I have taught English 8, 9, and 11, Technical Writing, Speech, and Drama. I am the Drama adviser and our high school book club, “Deliberate Scholars,” adviser.
Avoiding clichés is a must for any writing teacher, however, I’m going to use one—teaching is my passion! I love helping students find their voice in writing and discussing various writing techniques. This year your student will strengthen his/her writing skills, learn about various authors and literary genres, increase grammar/spelling skills, participate in whole class and small group discussions and projects, have the opportunity to show his/her creativity, and hopefully, develop a love for the written word. I will do everything I can to tailor lessons to students’ individual learning styles so they can get the most out of their English class.
When I’m not teaching, I reside in Dover with my wonderful husband, Neal, who is also an English teacher. We spend our time with our two “fur babies,” Selby and Tippie Toes, watching classic films, debating literature and music, playing cards (though I always win), putting puzzles together, and rummaging for antiques to fill our house. I am a life-long I Love Lucy fan and love anything from the 1950s and 1960s.
