Meet the new teachers
Mrs. Kelly Burge is one of the high school’s new science teachers. She graduated from Lake High School and then went on to Miami University of Ohio. Her hobbies are cooking, gardening, and knitting. She loves Indian food, and her favorite holiday is Halloween. She felt teaching was the career for her because she loves science, but she is too social to be in a lab type setting. She discovered that she loved to be in front of a class in high school which also led her to teaching. Her favorite T.V. show is Criminal Minds because she likes to see how crazy people can actually be. Her biggest fears are being abandoned and heights. During her summer break she takes college classes and takes care of her house. She has 33 pets, nine of which are in the classroom. There are four axolotls (aquatic salamander), one chameleon, one turtle, and three snakes in her classroom. Her favorite vacation was going to Venice, Italy. As a child she wanted to be a doctor, but soon realized that was not the right job for her because she could not cut into people. Mrs. Burge is a great addition to our high school staff!

Over time that developed into a love of science in general. I wanted to be a vet for a very long time, but eventually I decided that I liked people too much to be a vet. I like talking and interacting with people. I decided the best combination of science and people was education. I have found since then that I love what I do and wouldn't change a thing.”

He has many aquariums containing fish, turtles and frogs. As a child, he wanted to become a paleontologist, but became a USPS carrier. Over the summer, his favorite vacation spot is the beach, where he probably finds dinosaur bones in amatuer paleontology.
