Welcome back! It is hard to believe that in just a few short weeks the 2018-2019 school year will be upon us. We are excited and optimistic about the upcoming year and look forward to getting things started on Wednesday, August 22nd, as we welcome back our students.
This year we will have a few new faces in the building. We are very excited to welcome Mr. Reis Bonifant, Mr. Jason Wade, and Mrs. Hope Haney to the Strasburg-Franklin Local School District. Mr. Bonifant will be teaching Social Studies this year in the Middle School. Mr. Wade will be our new Math instructor in the High School and Mrs. Haney will be taking over the Art department. I hope you will take the opportunity at our Back to School Bash on Monday, August 20th, to introduce yourself and welcome each one of them to Strasburg.
In an effort to continue to provide our students with the best educational experience possible we have added some new course offerings for the 2018-2019 school year. At the middle school level, all seventh and eighth grade students will be participating in the Project Lead The Way program. On the high school side, we are excited to announce that we will be offering five College Credit Plus classes this year taught by Dr. Ellen Christy and Mrs. Tanya Horne. New elective classes have also been added. These elective classes can be taken in the classroom and/or online through the Strasburg Digital Academy. There are also many great extracurricular activities/programs to be involved in at Strasburg and we strongly encourage our students to take advantage of these activities/programs. This year, we have added an after school Gaming club for all students, as well as an after school intervention program for middle school students that will begin in early September. As you can see, there are many great things happening at Strasburg right now and a lot to be excited about. As we move forward, we will continue to evaluate and improve the opportunities offered to the students of the Strasburg Franklin Local School District in the hopes of giving each student the best educational experience possible.
As always, our greatest, most important initiative, is to make sure that we are always “Keeping the Main Thing, the Main Thing,” which is our students. This has not changed and will not change. It is important that as educators, parents, and community members we never forget this. We will continue doing what is best for the young men and women that we have the opportunity to serve each day and continue to instill that Tiger P.R.I.D.E. (Personal Responsibility in Developing Excellence) in them. Through a close and collaborative partnership with all stakeholders, I am confident that we can continue to take steps forward and make our school an even better place for students to learn and grow.
